Get Involved!

I recently attended a film symposium regarding the women in Congo. An incredible documentary filmmaker, Lisa F. Jackson, went into the deep depths of the Congo forest interviewing various women who were raped by soldiers of foreign militias and the Congolese army. Lisa was even able to obtain a few interviews with actual soldiers who admitted to raping many women. This incredible film titled "The Greatest Silence: Rape in the Congo"
is so touching and emotional.

After a bit more research, I came across one of my new favorite websites, ecorazzi.com. I came across a short clip starring actress Sienna Miller titled "8 Minutes". Sienna went to a displacement camp outside of Goma and was in an emotional state of shock. Just like the title, a woman is raped every eight minutes in Congo.

So, what can we do to help? There are always donations that can be made to various charities and you can even sign online petitions sent to the government such as GoPetition. But just educating yourself on this cause is support enough for this cause. To know that innocent women and girls are suffering somewhere else makes you step back and truly appreciate how blessed of a life we have.
